stop with the fud already. Businesses operating in the eu cannot do this. Just because corporations in the usa can, doesn't mean the rest of the world is the same...

Hi All,
First off I am new here, so Hi again
I have a small problem getting Microsoft Outlook 2001 to use my 2003 Exchange server. I have to admit I am new to macs and am finding it a little hard to do anything but I am trying.
From what I can tell is that for some reason my the mac will not resolve the server name to an ip address. I mean when I look in the Outlook settings, under services --> properties if I place the servers IP address there and then the user name and then 'check the name' it resolves the name of the server and under lines the user name (which as far as I am concerned has worked).
Yet when I then launch Outlook I get a message saying folders could not be opened. The attempt to log on to the server failed..... Microdoft Outlook could not be started. The attempt to log on to the MS Exchange Server failed....................
What I have done so far:-
Updated the /etc/hosts file and added the ip address for the server (can ping both IP and name from the console and network util)
When in Outlook settings --> properties and user the server name instead of the IP address and try and check name I get an error.. The name could not be resolved. Network problems are preventing connection to the MS Exchange Server, Contact your system adminsitrator (me).
Sorry for the long post but this is a real problem. Any help would be much appreciated.
Ian
PS The only thing I can sort of think of at the moment is that Outlook starts I think in classic mode??? I am not sure if this starts a new shell and therefore ignores the /etc/hosts file and that is the reason why it can not resolve the server name. If I am right my next question would be where is the hosts file for the classic enviroment??

Do I have to have OS X Server to enable this, as of now on regular OS X(Snow Leopard) I see no "Music" or "iTunes" sharing option.

There was an article about an 11 year old girl who was gangraped in Texas by 18 young men because she was dressed up like a 21-year-old prostitute.
So if she was really a 21 year old prostitute, the gang rape is okay then?

In doing some research, I found out that the basic Pioneer DVR-111 series SuperDrives Apple uses (some G4/all G5/all Intel towers) have the hardware capability to do LabelFlash direct-to-disk-surface label burning with the compatible disks. LabelFlash is the NEC-originated competitor to LightScribe, does basically the same thing on LightScribe-compatible disks.
On the Windows side, there are lots of sites out there that talk about flashing the ROMs to enable the feature for certain revision letters & firmware versions of the DVR-111 drives, while other versions of the drive (DVR-111L) are already fully capable (no clue on the ones Apple shipped with the Macs -- I stopped paying attention when I found there were ZERO software apps to support it on the Mac side that I could find).
Personally, I would really like to see Apple provide the feature as an OS-bundled utility app or added-feature in an existing Apple burner app (like the one in the iLife bundle).
As of March '05, Roxio also said they were going to support LightScribe (and possibly LabelFlash) in their future Mac releases, but I didn't see any mention of it in the feature sets of Toast & Toast Titanium 6 & 7, both of which were either updated or released after that date. Theoretically, they could also support LightScribe (if licensed) to burn images into unused portions of the dataside (as could any other burner app), to create a label effect (see http://www.yamahamultimedia.com/yec/tech/discta2_01.asp for details on the technology).
The epson CD-printer solution seems a bit silly for my uses, if I have no other use for the printer, mostly because of the consumables costs (and, indeed, with a big HP laser color printer here, I have zero other use for the Epson and am not thrilled by their putty-style inks and subsequent print head maintenance/cleaning processes that waste a goodly chunk of the ink reservior).
As for the sharpie comments, I create CD's & DVD's for clients and would prefer to present a more "professional image" on the disks than hand-written solutions. I was printing color labels through my laser printer and setting them in (usually using Avery CD labels), but some of the clients, esp. those with very thin portables seemed to be having issues with the thicker disks as a result, so I went back to sharpies as a general rule. The ability to do LabelFlash disks with hardware I already own would be great...
Cheers,

I recall many on this forum criticizing these techniques claiming they never provided useful information.
What say you now??
Personally, I was in favor of using these methods on prisoners that were known terrorists, such as K.S.M.
If the US signs the United Nations Convention Against Torture, and then admits using "enhanced interrogation" methods as part of its policy in the "War on Terror", then there is a double standard. We are either advocates of torture, or we are not.
Until advocates of "enhanced interrogation" grow a pair and start calling it torture, which is what it is, there is no point in even having a discussion on the subject.

I was able to register about 7AM on the 15th, but have not recieved any confirmation. Hope that all is in order.
Just updated the software on my 3G, but am looking forward to seeing what it is like on the new hardware. Sounds Really Good so far...

When AppleTV was announced I felt a sense of excitement - finally Apple's set-top box had arrived and Mac fans wanting to bring the experience into their livingroom could do without feeling too much like what they really need is a Windows Media Centre.
Then when iPhone happened I couldn't quite believe it. I was absolutely stunned, despite all the rumours, and was incredibly worried about what it might look like. Could Apple produce an ugly design? The phone has been designed in so many shapes and sizes that surely they can't come up with something completely unique?
When I actually saw the first pictures I was blown away. Now I'm desperately waiting for the video of the keynote to come out so I can see the handset in action. I can completely understand why Steve dedicated almost the entire keynote to the iPhone because it is definitely Apple's most important product launch to date.
Of course I was disappointed that there was no demonstration of Leopard or announcements about the Mac's, but that's obviously not what this Macworld was meant to be about. Instead I now hope we'll see special events over the coming months to give us all the bits we'd have normally received here. What does worry me, as a new switcher to Mac and somebody who has switched his company over with him, is the name change. Dropping 'computer' from the name suggests that the Macs aren't the core business activity any longer. While the name better reflects the direction Apple is going in anyway, the Mac platform needs all the endorsement it can get and I don't think the old name was causing anybody any bother.
All in all it looks to have been an excellent keynote. The iPhone has obviously taken some incredible engineering and I look forward to all the juicy details becoming public over the next few days, weeks and months.
